The first human trial of cellular reprogramming just began — out of Harvard.

Dr. Sinclair is a tenured Harvard Medical School genetics professor and one of the most-cited scientists studying the biology of aging. In early 2026 the FDA cleared human dosing for ER-100, a partial epigenetic reprogramming therapy from Life Biosciences, the company he co-founded. It works by briefly switching on three of the four “Yamanaka factors” — genes that can reset a cell’s age without erasing what kind of cell it is.
In animal studies it restored age-related DNA changes and recovered vision after optic-nerve injury. Human dosing for two eye conditions, NAION and open-angle glaucoma, began this year — the first time this approach has been tried in a person. The trial is in its earliest phase; there is no result yet to report.
